Haywood Breast Center
Call 828.456.8633Haywood Breast Center’s program is designed to provide each patient with compassionate care. Beyond having technology for early detection and the most current treatments available for a variety of breast conditions, each patient is viewed as an individual.
Patients who are diagnosed with breast cancer will have access to a patient navigator, a specially trained registered nurse who offers educational and emotional support from the time of diagnosis until recovery. Your navigator is there to assist your family as well. A multidisciplinary case review, involving medical and radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, surgeons and the nurse navigator is conducted for each patient.
Convenient support services include the Cancer Resource Center, support groups and peer counseling.
In addition, the Hereditary Risk Assessment program, is currently offered to all mammography patients. The aim is to provide early detection and prevention of cancer not only for our mammography patients but any patient who may be at risk. The program offers genetic counseling and testing for 28 genes that place a patient at increased risk for breast, ovarian, colon, uterine, gastric, pancreatic, melanoma, and prostate cancers.

3D Mammography
Having regular mammograms can save your life.
Mammograms are able to detect cancers too small to feel with a self-exam and can find them early when they are easier to treat. The American Cancer Society recommends women over 40 have a screening mammogram once a year.
Comfort3D mammography reveals more life-saving detections. New design and C-view software means you get the life-saving 3D views without having to be compressed longer or without receiving additional radiation. 3D imaging has a slightly higher dose of radiation than traditional 2D. The total dosage is within acceptable FDA guidelines. |

Benefits of 3D Mammograms
Three-dimensional mammography creates a three-dimensional picture of the breast using X-rays. Several low-dose images from different angles around the breast are used to create the 3D picture. A conventional mammogram creates a two-dimensional image of the breast from two X-ray images of each breast. Several studies have found that 3D mammograms find more cancers than traditional 2D mammograms and also reduce the number of false positives. A 3D mammogram at Haywood Regional Medical Center can improve cancer detection by 40%*.
